My Brand Message Was All Wrong (Until I Asked This Question)
The Kitchen Table Moment That Changed My Story
Hey Friends,
Yesterday, someone I just met asked what I do for work. My usual elevator pitch flopped hard. "But what does that mean?" she asked.
Great question.
The Reality Check
Sitting at my kitchen table, rewriting my mission statement for the tenth time, I realized something: I was writing what I thought should sound good, not what actually felt true.
My Simple Test
Instead of crafting the "perfect" statement, I tried answering three questions:
What makes me angry about my industry?
Who did I want to help when I started?
What would I do even if I wasn't paid?
The Surprise
My real mission was hiding in my journal all along. It wasn't in the fancy words – it was in the late-night scribbles about why I couldn't sleep.
Today's Draft
"I help overwhelmed individuals build a personal brand that opens doors to new opportunities."
Not perfect. Probably not final. But finally feels true.
Tomorrow's Challenge
Going to test this new mission in casual conversations. No fancy pitch, just real talk.
Your Friend, Scott
