Stop Sending Messages That Get Ignored
I Made This Messaging Mistake Today (So You Don't Have To)
Hey Friends,
This morning, I caught myself writing another stiff, formal LinkedIn message. You know the type – sounds like a robot trying to impress another robot? Yeah, that kind. Delete, delete, delete.
Here's what I tried instead: I just wrote like I was talking to a friend. And something interesting happened.
My Simple Experiment
I spotted someone posting about their career struggles. Instead of dropping my usual "expert advice," I shared my own current challenge. Their response? "Finally, someone who gets it!"
What I'm Learning
Turns out, people respond better to "I'm figuring this out too" than "Let me show you how it's done." Who knew? (Okay, maybe everyone knew except me!)
Today's Small Test
I'm trying this three-step approach:
Comment on one post with a real struggle I'm facing
Ask how they're handling similar challenges
Share what I'm learning along the way
Quick Win From Today
Rewrote my standard greeting from "I noticed your impressive background" to "Your post about [specific topic] caught my eye because I'm wrestling with that too."
Tomorrow's Adventure
I'll share my first awkward attempts at testing different content styles. Expect some entertaining fails!
Your Friend, Scott
P.S. Reply and tell me: What's the most robotic message you've caught yourself writing? Let's laugh about it together!
